Getting Your First Sale Online

It’s no secret that most beginners who try to make money online end up failing. This especially goes for people who try to sell information products. Many people often enter with unrealistic expectations. This usually leads to them quickly setting everything up, investing some money in paid traffic, not getting a return on investment, and then getting frustrated and giving up.

Well, I’m here to tell you that if you are going to make any sales on the internet, you need to be patient AND consistent. When people usually start out, they start with affiliate marketing. This means that they are simply trying to sell other people’s products in exchange for a commission. They soon realize that simply running some traffic over their web page does not always yield results.

When I first started, I did just that. I set up all necessary web pages, and ran a solo ad of 100 clicks (for those of you who don’t know, a solo is when you pay for a certain amount of clicks to your page, usually it’s targeted traffic, from someone else’s email list). I paid $40 for the solo ad. So that translates to $0.40 PPC, which means price per click. To my pleasant surprise, I ended up getting FOUR commissions for $20 each, meaning I doubled my initial profit, with an EPC (Earnings per click) of $0.80. This meant I doubled my money! I thought to myself, “wow, if I am able to do this so easily, I’ll just keep running solo ads and double my money every time!”

Well, I ran another solo ad for $40, and I was devastated. NO Sales. This meant that I went from $4o easy profit, back down to $0 profit. It took me two more weeks before I made another sale.

So, the moral of this story is that results are not always going to be dependable in the beginning. As you start to build up your email list and make sure you treat the list well, your profits will slowly start to increase. The hardest part, by far, is getting it off the ground. I realized later that the second solo ad was not a total loss, because I was able to generate at least 30 more people out of the 100 clicks to my email list.

If you’re new to internet marketing, whether it be affiliate marketing or trying to sell your own information product, remember to be patient and consistent. The results will not come in overnight. But, if you can justify what you’re doing and put forth a solid effort for at least a month, you’ll start to see results on some level.

Remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day 🙂
